The erect penis of an adult man is about 13 cm long on average. But most penises are shorter or longer. It doesn't make sense to measure the flaccid penis.
How long is the erect penis?
On average, an erect penis in an adult man is slightly longer than 13 centimeters. That's a bit more than 5 inches. However, this average value says little. Most penises aren't exactly this size, but somewhere between 9 to 19 cm – and it's also normal for a penis to be 7 cm or 21 cm long. Or even longer or shorter. It's the same with penis size as with body size: there is a big range.
How wide is the erect penis?
Stiff penises of adult men are often between 3 and 5 cm wide. Their circumference is often between 9 and 15 cm. A thicker penis is just as normal as a thinner penis.
How long or wide should my penis be?
Your penis doesn't have to be a certain size. For sex, it doesn't matter how long or wide your penis is. What matters is what you do with your penis during sex. So don't listen to someone telling you how long or wide your penis has to be. Penises can be shorter, longer, wider or narrower. It's perfectly normal that no two penises are alike.
How big should the penis be in adolescence?
There is no telling how big your penis should be at 13, 15 or 17. That depends on which phase of puberty you're in – it's different for everybody. You can't even predict how much your penis will grow during puberty.
When does the penis stop growing?
Penis growth begins in puberty, because your body releases more of the hormone Testosterone. This growth stops after 19 years at the latest. As you grow older, it'll neither grow nor shrink.
What about the size of the flaccid penis?
Have you ever measured your flaccid penis? You will probably notice that the length can vary a lot, depending on how hot or cold you are. So which length counts? The length of a flaccid penis doesn't really tell you how long it is when it is erect, because it can vary so much.
What are "showers" and "growers"?
"Shower" and "grower" are colloquial expressions. If you're a grower your penis grows more when it's erect. If you're a shower, it's longer when it's flaccid and grows less when it's erect. We suggest you don't place too much value in these words. What's the point? Remember: Sometimes your flaccid penis is shorter and sometimes it's longer, depending on how warm it is.

You may see a lot of different numbers regarding average penis size. Check out the source of the information and stick with official sources, like health websites or scientific studies. Also, when you compare studies about penis size, the average sizes vary based on if men measure their penises themselves or someone else measures them. When men measure their penises themselves, they tend to exaggerate a bit. Therefore, it's a good idea to go for the numbers in scientific research where others measure the penises.
What numbers can I trust?
The best source we found is a review in the journal BJU International. Researchers compared different studies all measuring penis sizes and calculated that erect penises have an average length of 13.12 centimetres and that there's a really big range of different sizes.
Should I compare my penis with others?
Of course you can compare your penis to other penises, but you don't have to. Penises can look completely different and be completely different in size. On this website you will find a gallery with penis photos. The text is in German, but the pictures speak for themselves.
Is it possible to influence penis size?
The size of your penis is hereditary. You can't change that. There's no point for men with normal hormone levels to take extra testosterone. This only leads to physical problems and not to a larger penis. Methods of penis enlargement are partly nonsense, and partly associated with considerable risks. There are more elegant, cheaper and guaranteed promising solutions: You can do something to make your penis feel bigger – so that you are satisfied with its size.
