Lubricant, deep breathing, pelvic movements, time to relax and prepare - all this helps you avoid injuries during anal sex.
How do injuries happen?
Anal sex is not entirely harmless. The skin in the anus and rectum is very sensitive and vulnerable. It can bleed quickly and strongly. The anal sphincter muscle is tense. It's important to relax it to prevent further injuries. Read this text to see what else can go wrong if you're not careful. If you stick to the tips in the text, you can make anal sex pleasurable and prevent it from hurting.
Why lubricant?
Always use lubricant for anal sex. Moisture prevents skin injuries. The anus and the intestinal wall themselves do not release any fluid. So use lots. Ample amounts. Silicone-based lubricants are best, because they are more durable. Don't use them if you use silicone toys, though. In this case, use water-based lubricant.
Why slow movements?
Many people tense their muscles and don't pay much attention to breathing when it comes to anal sex. Some people tense up because they're afraid of pain. However, high muscle tension can make anal penetration very painful. Lesions can happen more quickly, because you're tighter. So it's really important to relax these muscles. Good perception of your body will help you prevent lesions. Rule of thumb: It shouldn't hurt. If you're in pain, stop. If your partner's in pain, stop. It also helps if you breathe deeply and don't move too quickly. You want slow, relaxed movements. If you know how to use your pelvis, you can better control your movements. What about sex toys?
When using sex toys, make sure that they are not too long and the package states that they're suitable for anal sex. Don't leave them in your anus for too long. Otherwise there will be permanent pressure. This can lead to injuries and damage the inner sphincters and anal mucous membranes.
