I have always associated muscular tension with orgasm. When I was younger, it was quick, and I lasted anything from a handful of seconds to an hour (just whenever I tensed... what muscles?). I am now in my 40s, move less, and I can no longer orgasm as quickly, maintaining an erection until I begin to tense, when I often lose my erection. Viagra and a recharged libido does help, but I'm confused whether this is basically a fitness issue, mental/physical effects of aging, or balancing arousal with blood flow, so moving more and tensing less is the answer. I am unsure I am even able to orgasm without muscular tension, and I am so out of shape.

It's about the interplay of tensing and relaxing the muscles during sex. If you learn this, you will be able to feel more and better control your arousal. If you only tense your muscles, you will feel less and you won't be able to feel your arousal well. On the other hand, if you don't tense your muscles at all, i.e. you don't move them, you won't have sufficient control over your arousal either. We have written texts that can help you with this. If you are worried that something is medically wrong, you should consult a urologist.
